Old School Citizens Band Radios
With the arrival of all the new multi mode CB radios I thought it would be nice to have a look down memory lane at some of the old 40 channel FM CB radios and accessories from the good old days, many of which are still in use today.A lot of radios had a similar underlying chassis design made by either Uniden or Cybernet. The casing and facia were then customised for each brand. Arguments raged, (and still do) on which was the best chassis to have.

The Amstrad 901 was an update on the original 900. It had a switchable roger beep and "trendy" LED lights signal meter. They were not bad however like Marmite you either loved or hated them! They are now quite sought after due to their sensitive receive. A few companies marketed the same CB with different names such as Harvard and Spinney Tronic.

With the Danita Mark 5 Danita showed they weren't afraid to break the mould. I had one of these and loved it. Its slanted front and twin signal meters give it a modern look that stood out in the crowd of traditional looking radios and just in case that wasn't enough to let you know what you had they added a bright green front!

The Midland Portapac was an interesting hybrid. Similar to the 77-104 above it could be used as a normal home or mobile CB. However you could also slip it into the included leather battery pack and go walkabout using the attached telescopic aerial. The speaker was built into the microphone and provided good audio. A bit cumbersome by today's handheld standards but an interesting all rounder to have in your collection.!
